Process Pieces

Art as therapy. Art as expression. Art as communication. Art as engagement. Art as community.

It’s all of those things really. But to me it’s more or less a compulsion any more. I’ve spent the last few years working on very non specific work. Mainly donuts on faux wood and metal surfaces. They are more impressive in person but one thing I love about them is just moving them back and forth, rearranging them and seeing what different effects they give visually. There is a very visceral feeling to handling them.

so I’m going to transition that into another idea I’ve had for awhile. Sometimes it feels like I’m just practicing for the next thing, I think is pretty legit though:

it’s run right? And that yellow runner is another painting they’re sitting atop.

This was definitely more about exploring texture and form than anything else. I really enjoy the process of grounding the donuts and making the surfaces feel at least somewhat believable. But these have been a great joy, I have more in a shop somewhere but they’ve been there so long now, I’m just never sure. Perhaps soon I will have a donut show at a local shop or something.

Any-who it’s leading into the next thing I think. I still love the landscape as a gateway to story telling. Big scrolling paintings that demonstrate small daily lives, I’m not so sure that they have to be 8 feet long anymore though.

I want to try something a bit smaller

it all starts with a doodle.
