It’s quiet, it’s slow, it’s always very personal. As I have never been one to seek attention or want to be shouted at as I enter a room, it suites me well in a lot of ways.
That said, there is little opportunity here. The advent of the internet is surely a great help in terms of finding friends and an audience for my artwork but it’s not entirely without it’s own shortcomings. I think it is best, in the end, to focus on the good though.
- You can walk anywhere, like seriously you can walk across the entire town in an hour and half. The bus runs on time usually too if you don’t want to deal with all of that.
- There are distinct and functional services. The DMV does take awhile but not like in a larger city, your wait is maybe 15 minutes instead of 50.
- Friends and family. When you’re young you just want to get away from your old life and figure out with this “me” thing is. But when you figure out the “me” thing is just you and all the stuff inside of your skin, and if you’re like me, you might start to value those people a bit more.
- it’s slow, there’s no rush and no need to rush. You can try out a few different versions of yourself.
- People remember you. There’s that old saying that people remember not what you said or did, but how you make them feel. That’s nowhere more prevalent than in the confines of rolling clouds and county roads label 1-17.
There’s more list to be had but I think five good solid things is quite enough. We also have a lake here and one, count them one, famous internet people. So that’s all the star power I need.
